RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leading the team to ensure that their complex hedging processes operate effectively daily
  • Analysis and explanation of the results of the program to senior management
  • Leading the valuation team to ensure that their work complies with Actuarial guidelines and standards of practice
  • Explaining our quarterly segregated fund required capital position to senior management, along with how this may change with equity movements
  • Recommending changes to our valuation and hedging assumptions and methodologies for approval
  • Lead innovative projects such as development of valuation reporting under new IFRS 17 standards
  • Provide advice, review of assumptions and risk analysis on new product development initiatives
  • A key source of guidance and input to the risk function related to the many complex risks that are embedded within these segregated fund products
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment including: valuation model and assumption change controls, reconciliation of movements, internal and external peer reviews
  • Directly communicating with OSFI on items related to the business
  • A part of industry working groups related to our segregated fund business where a key item would be to influence the direction of these discussions
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Very strong technical skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work within strict timeframes/deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, with the ability to convey technical concepts in relatable language of audience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications including advanced Excel functions
  • Proficiency in GGY AXIS would be an asset
  • Solid understanding of capital markets would be an asset
  • Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries
