  • Managing, training and leading a team of actuaries/associates through the Quarter End and Year End financial reporting process across all lines of business under three reserving bases
  • Preparing IFRS reserves, US GAAP reserves, OSFI exhibits, and the LICAT (LIMAT) return
  • Ensuring tests and analysis are completed to fully verify accuracy, such as reserve movements and source of earnings analysis
  • Preparation and/or consolidation of cash flows for FCT, Business Projections, CALM (eventually IFRS 17), Asset-Liability matching, Solvency II Reporting, Value of New Business and Discounted Future Tax Liability
  • Preparation of reports for management, regulators and the head office
  • Monitoring emerging experience and testing of assumption changes as needed
  • Coordinating with the Reinsurance Operations and Claims department to ensure quality control processes are in place and that the data being used is acceptable for financial reporting
  • Identifying needs of the valuation landscape and coordinate with Business Transformation to bring about infrastructure-related improvements
  • Building strong relationships with other departments, maintaining regular communication, identifying opportunities for improvement and successfully addressing issues as they arise

  • University Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • 5-10 years of experience in the Canadian Life and Health insurance/reinsurance industry.
  • Strong problem solving and organization skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and effectiveness working under tight timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills. Comfortable working with fairly complex calculations.
  • Project management skills and experience.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advanced Excel, Word, Access.
  • Experience with SQL server is an asset.
  • Experience with AXIS and Datalink.
