RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluation of catastrophe models (e.g. RMS, AIR)
  • Design of model tests, review of vendor/broker model evaluation documents, testing and challenging model components and results, and making clear recommendations for model adjustments where required. This also includes perils outside natural catastrophe such as terrorism, casualty and cyber.
  • Perform research on scientific datasets related to natural hazards and risk to develop a critical understanding of risk modelling methodologies, and implement methodologies for evaluating catastrophe models and .
  • Ensure implementation of a comprehensive model evaluation process that is clearly defined, consistently applied and supported by a set of standards and principles that enable its effective application.
  • Build strong relationships with colleagues within ERM and key stakeholders in other business areas and develop a strong reputation as a subject matter expert.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of external market trends and developments; factor these into the company’s ways of working as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in a Catastrophe Modelling related field, with working knowledge of multiple classes of businesses, preferably both at an individual account and portfolio level.
  • Working knowledge of non-modelled Catastrophe risk and the techniques involved in the calculation of such risk.
  • Knowledge of Insurance and Reinsurance concepts, especially regulatory returns.
  • Working knowledge of third party Catastrophe Models, especially AIR/RMS, and underlying concepts involved in Catastrophe Modelling.
