  • Understand business requirements and identify the source of required data from various sources
  • Assemble complex datasets, transform and curate data for use in the tool
  • Evaluate and recommend the most optimal data structure for the specific purpose of the tool, using problem-solving skills to work through tool performance challenges
  • Create multiple tools in Excel using Excel itself and VBA, embedded in one Excel workbook that are integrated together, under one interface
  • Problem solve in order to develop the most simplified, aesthetically pleasing user interface to be used in day-to-day Underwriting renewal and quoting work
  • Work with large amounts of financial and operational data, displaying this in meaningful ways for Underwriting and utilizing this in ways for the tools
  • Conduct extensive testing of the tool to ensure accuracy and quality of output
  • Strong skills in Excel and VBA required
  • Coordinate primarily with Pricing, Underwriting and IT teams to align on required data and get access to relevant data
  • Work with Pricing and Underwriting to determine optimal interface
  • Collaborate with Underwriting to initiate testing, gather feedback on the tool, make adjustments based on user feedback and publish for re-testing
  • Strong ability to work independently, without perfectly clear direction and ambiguous routes to the final destination
  • University degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a data management, data science or actuarial role
  • Advanced knowledge in SQL and familiarity with a variety of databases (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server)
  • Strong Excel and VBA skills
  • Previous direct experience in a pricing, underwriting or data engineer role
  • Business Objects or experience with a similar data mining tool.
