RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Accountable for profitability of personal lines automobile and property products and the execution of pricing activities to deliver the Financial Plan.
  • Work collaboratively with the leadership team and other functional business units to solve business problems of the following nature: retention, growth, profitability, competitive positioning, using data and actuarial techniques.
  • Lead the submission of regulatory rate filings and negotiate with provincial regulators to secure desired structural and rate amendments as per internally agreed upon timeline.
  • Participate in the corporate business planning and forecasting exercises by providing actuarial advice on parameters used to forecast business growth, retention and profitability.
  • Work with other analytical functions to creatively combine technical knowledge with sound business judgment in developing sophisticated models that enable the company to meet growth and profitability targets.
  • Provides leadership and guidance, technical instruction and ongoing feedback to direct reports regarding performance, productivity, work quality, personal conduct and adherence to Corporate policies and procedures.
  • Actively involved in recruiting and retaining high performing and highly engaged actuarial staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • University Degree in Actuarial Science or a relevant discipline
  • Must have successfully achieved Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience managing a small team of actuarial analysts
  • Must have at least 5 years of relevant Property and Casualty insurance experience and Pricing for personal lines insurance
  • Must have strong stakeholder management and project management capabilities such as communication, organization and execution to ensure successful project completion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must possess strong programming and design skills, including in depth knowledge of SAS and Microsoft applications
  • Professional, friendly and courteous in all interactions, whether with customers or co-workers
  • Perform well in a busy operation, remain calm under pressure and adaptable to a changing environment
  • Highly creative, bringing a strong sense of curiosity and lateral thinking to problem-solving
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong people management skills with the ability to recruit, coach, develop, motivate and retain staff
