RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Overseeing the science portion of the team, with a focus on developing and implementing the strategic objectives for this area of the function
  • Developing and maintaining an external network of academics and industry participants who the company can engage with on scientific projects
  • Project design and management of scientific projects to meet business needs
  • Translating external scientific research into business-impacting practices and product development
  • Performing independent, business-relevant scientific research in areas of interest to the company as an (re)insurance company
  • Directing thought leadership with regards to climate change impacts on the (re)insurance industry
  • Line management responsibilities for more junior scientist(s) within the team
  • Supporting analytical reviews of catastrophe models with a focus on atmospheric perils
  • Communicating technical analysis and scientific findings (re)insurance professionals.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD or equivalent in atmospheric science
  • Relevant (re)insurance industry experience
  • Excellent statistical skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communications skills, including report writing and ability to give presentations both internally and externally
  • A willingness to undertake projects in fields outside of your area of direct expertise
  • A desire to facilitate the co-operation and alignment of progressive scientific thought in academia and industry
