RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for overseeing and managing all financial matters, including external and management reporting, regulatory reporting, capital planning, and investment reporting.
  • Responsible for ensuring adequacy of controls over financial reporting, and acting as second line of defense over the technical liabilities calculated by the actuarial teams.
  • Responsible for compliance with external regulatory reporting requirements, compliance with Group reporting standards.
  • Maximize the efficiencies from existing systems, and where possible align to globally standardized systems and processes.
  • Drive business performance through the provision of strategic financial and business insight to the Executive Committee, offering appropriate levels of challenge and supporting the optimization of returns and capital deployment.
  • Provide insight in the context of emerging regulatory and accounting change including the impact of IFRS 17.
  • Lead competitor benchmarking exercises to demonstrate execution effectiveness of business strategy.
  • Accountable for the co-ordination of the company Hong Kong’s Annual Operating Plan, setting ambitious business growth targets within the bounds of controllable cost targets.
  • Responsible for ensuring the capital within the company is optimized while being sufficient to meet all external regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Effectively lead the team onshore and offshore to drive the financial management agenda of the business.
  • Ensure alignment with the global financial management agenda and the transition towards the Integrated Reporting operating model that will support IFRS 17.
  • Optimize the structure and location of resources within the team to ensure they are fit for purpose to support and meet business and finance objectives.
  • Create an engaging high performance culture, providing the appropriate balance of opportunities, challenge and reward for the team.
  • Create and ensure an inclusive culture exists where everyone is respected, active listening is encouraged and where all individuals have a voice.
  • Ensure financial control processes and procedures operating globally are in accordance with Group standards.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that adequate controls are implemented and maintained by the various entities across all financial reporting processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven leadership ability and team working skills in an international environment.
  • Experience of leading and executing significant change.
  • Track record of developing highly capable, motivated and diverse teams.
  • Experience and ability in resolving complex issues through leadership, influence and negotiation.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills; strong track record of engaging, challenging and influencing business performance in a large corporate environment.
  • The role requires an ability to operate in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all key components of insurance financial statements and their dynamics, and ability to communicate them in a clear manner to a non-expert audience.
  • Strong knowledge of life insurance product structures.
  • Strong knowledge of embedded value reporting processes and result drivers.
  • Robust controllership background, including a good understanding of the actuarial methods used for liability valuation and embedded value calculation.
  • Strong technical accounting skills, including detailed knowledge of key requirements of IFRS 4 and IAS39/IFRS 9, and a working knowledge of prospective requirements under IFRS 17.
