  • Accountable for profitability and the execution of pricing activities to deliver the Financial Plan for these portfolios.
  • Work collaboratively with the Leadership team and other Functional Units to solve business problems of the following nature: retention, growth, profitability, competitive positioning, through the use of data and actuarial techniques.
  • Lead the submission of regulatory rate filings, and negotiate with provincial regulators to secure desired structural and rate amendments as per internally agreed upon timeline.
  • Participate in the corporate business planning and forecasting exercises by providing actuarial advice on parameters used to forecast business growth, retention and profitability. This also includes assessing what future rate increases could be approved by provincial regulators.
  • Work with other analytical functions to creatively combine technical knowledge with sound business judgment in developing sophisticated models that enable the company to meet growth and profitability targets.
  • Provides leadership and guidance, technical instruction and ongoing feedback to direct reports regarding performance, productivity, work quality, personal conduct and adherence to corporate policies and procedures.
  • Actively involved in recruiting and retaining high performing and highly engaged actuarial staff.
  • University Degree in Actuarial Science or a relevant discipline.
  • Must have successfully achieved Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience managing a small team of actuarial analysts.
  • Must have at least 5 years of relevant full-time Property and Casualty insurance experience, with a strong preference for experience in Pricing, Personal Insurance and the Direct Channel.
  • Must have strong stakeholder management and project management capabilities such as communication and organizational skills and an ability to engage and supervise a team effort toward project completion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess strong programming and design skills, including in depth knowledge of SAS and Microsoft applications.
  • Professional, friendly and courteous in all interactions, whether with customers or co-workers.
