  • Carry out deep-dive profitability reviews. This will involve analysis of the profitability of individual accounts and/or business segments, as required.
  • Ensure that the results of such analyses lead to meaningful portfolio actions and are reflected in technical pricing models as appropriate.
  • Monitor outcomes of the steering activities, following profitability analyses.
  • Develop and maintain pricing tools, in particular, this involves refinement of the tools through recalibrations and the development of appropriate statistical pricing methodologies.
  • Peer review work from other team members and provide guidance to junior team members.
  • Establish an excellent working relationship with Underwriting and senior management to ensure their long-term support for technical pricing concepts and pricing tools.
  • Keep abreast of or lead on projects which affect the use of technical pricing and influence the direction of these projects so that technical pricing is promoted at the company.
  • Develop strong processes around modelling and analysis.
  • Coordination of global, cross-team projects as required.
  • Successfully collaborate across Portfolio Management team and all the company departments.
  • Understand market developments globally and ensure that loss trends, both prospective and retrospective, are understood and reflected in our underwriting activities.
  • Qualified P&C Actuary with significant post qualified experience.
  • Extensive experience of commercial lines pricing, ideally large corporate and specialty lines. Knowledge of long tail lines an advantage.
  • A natural curiosity with an ability to ask probing questions and the tenacity to ensure that those questions lead to appropriate action.
  • Partnering mentality with the ability to build strong working relationships with peers, management and the business areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others, particularly over those without direct authority.
  • Experienced in discussing with and presenting information to senior leaders.
  • Strong results orientation with a proven track-record of delivering on-time projects and process improvements.
  • Good computer skills with a working knowledge of Excel, VBA & SQL.
  • Ability to work in an international environment.
  • Desire to be involved in wider corporate issues.
