RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Carry out flood model research and evaluation by; collecting & processing third party data, e.g. satellite data, government flood defense data, academic vulnerability curves, etc., analyzing & validating catastrophe model outputs and producing/editing evaluation reports.
  • Support the design, planning, coordination and production of relevant model sensitivity analyses for different territories.
  • Research on flood-specific topics from the scientific literature as requested by our clients.
  • Effectively communicate with team members, business-units and brokers.
  • Collaborate with model vendor experts to understand their new models / model updates and compare / contrast choices made between model vendors.
  • Write reports, create presentations, produce plots and proof-read documents.
  • Support team members on automating output generation processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in hydrology, civil engineering, fluid dynamics, environmental science or other subject related to flood risk.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of programming in R, Python or equivalent.
  • Ability to form and hold an independent view on technical matters.
  • High level of competence with MS Office.
  • Strong analytical skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Team player, strong collaborator.
  • Experience in visualizing spatial data.
  • A genuine interest in flood and risk management.
  • Preferred:
  • PhD degree in hydrology, civil engineering, fluid dynamics, environmental science or other subject related to flood risk.
  • Experience in risk assessment, catastrophe modelling and/or re-insurance industry.
  • Good knowledge of statistics.
  • Advanced knowledge of Programming in R, Python or equivalent.
  • Experience working with SQL databases.
