RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Set and align the overall financial strategy for the financial operations of Individual Life Business.
  • Establishes the organizational goals, objectives, and operating procedures of Individual Life Business Finance.
  • Ensures the Finance functional areas are meeting all objectives pertaining to quality, compliance, regulations, productivity, customer service, budget, and project management.
  • Develops and ensures Individual Life Business operational plans are aligned with the company’s overall business plans and specific strategic and tactical initiatives.
  • Provides critical financial thought leadership and expertise to strategically drive improved financial and business results.
  • Evaluates and interprets economic trends and conditions which affect the financial services industry to determine short-term and long-term financial policies and plans.
  • Drives alignment for the finance organization’s efforts with key strategic initiatives and mission including providing the vision for accomplishing the company's financial goals and setting the tone for the underlying values, consistent with overall corporate operating philosophy.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with senior executives so as to identify their needs as they seek solutions for a full range of business challenges; ensuring that these executives are provided with strategically optimal financial impacts to the enterprise.
  • Ensures that top talent is hired, developed and retained.
  • Builds organizational capability within the Individual Life Business Finance function.
  • Provides training and development opportunities for Individual Life Business Finance employees and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent.
  • Oversees effective internal control of all Individual Life Business operations to ensure an accurate reporting of its financial position.
  • Advises, collaborates and guides the senior executive management on strategic financial planning opportunities and interpreting how they relate to and support the enterprise’s and Individual Life Business’ strategic objectives.
  • Identifies financial and enterprise risks and strategically designs, develops, and implements mitigation plans.
  • Provides management with monthly, quarterly and annual reviews of the organization’s financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
  • Ensures the preparation and communicates Individual Life Business’ financial performance to company’s CFO and leadership team, company’s Board of Directors, Regulators, Rating Agencies, Investors/Analysts, Customers/Intermediaries, and the employees of the Individual Life Business.
  • Focuses on performance to goals and identifies areas for improvement and concern.
  • Ensures the preparation of reports which summarize and forecast Individual Life Business activities and financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
  • Provides leadership and oversight in the preparation of budgets, by reviewing budget proposals and supporting documentation and justifications.
  • Leads the design, development, and implementation of the business unit’s strategy and planning process for the on-going success of the business.
  • Provides executive oversight to ensure that the proper governance is applied to all functions and actions, which include SOX implementation and compliance activities.
  • Leads the design, development, and implementation of Individual Life Business accounting policies, programs and methods and ensures that proper standards are maintained by accounting/finance personnel.
  • Provides executive approvals for regulatory reporting.
  • Directs and drives special studies and analysis concerning economic and financial implications of existing and planned Individual Life Business initiatives or projects.
  • Provides executive oversight of the administration of a multimillion-dollar expense budget by approving expenditures, reviewing reports, initiating process improvements and managing cost.
  • Identifies and provides expertise on merger and acquisition targets for the business unit.
  • Participates in appropriate committees, providing subject matter expertise.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience - Minimum Required in Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Accounting or other quantitative major.
  • Graduate degree or equivalent work experience - Minimum Required in Business Administration and/or Commerce or Economics, Commerce, Business Administration or Business
  • 15+ years of progressively more responsible experience in accounting, analysis, actuarial and/or financial reporting or related function, including at least 5+ years of senior management, strategy, and influencing senior management/critical stakeholders experience; or 10+ years of equivalent progressively more responsible experience in accounting, analysis, actuarial and/or financial reporting or related function, including at least 5+ years of senior management, strategy and influencing senior management/critical stakeholders experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strategic initiatives and plans which have benefited a company’s top and bottom lines.
  • Deep understanding of insurance and financial industry specific accounting, finance, shared service, and information technology processes.
  • Firm understanding of product design and profitability.
  • Strong Knowledge asset/liability modeling and financial projections and actuarial principals.
  • Strong Knowledge of current and future financial regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of external economic/market landscape.
  • Knowledge of insurance accounting concepts. GAPP/Statutory financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated excellent relationship management skills with internal and external clients; proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches to driving client-focused solutions which also benefited the company’s top and bottom lines.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed and logical discussions/presentations.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with collaborative management style.
