  • Preparing IFRS reserves, US GAAP reserves, OSFI exhibits, and the LICAT return.
  • Ensuring tests and analysis are completed to fully verify accuracy, such as reserve movements and source of earnings analysis.
  • Implementing modifications and enhancements to existing systems/processes for new requirements identified as a result of new products, changing regulations and/or the need to streamline processes.
  • Preparation and/or consolidation of cash flows for DCAT, Business Projections, CALM, Asset-Liability matching, Solvency II Reporting, Value of New Business and Discounted Future Tax Liability.
  • Preparation of reports for management, regulators and the head office.
  • Monitoring capital needs, which includes assessing any proposed changes from OSFI, interpreting new guidelines and ensuring periodic regulatory capital returns are completed efficiently.
  • Participating in experience monitoring and studies and testing of assumption changes as needed.
  • Ensuring that quality control processes are in place and that the data being used for financial reporting is acceptable.
  • Maintaining, enhancing and fully documenting models and systems used for financial reporting and experience studies.
  • Collaborating with and supporting other departments such as Pricing, Accounting, ERM as needed.
  • Ensuring a clear understanding of corporate and departmental objectives while providing challenging tasks and assignments to junior staff.
  • University Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • Recent ASA or progressing towards attainment of ASA /junior position
  • Near FSA or FSA /senior position.
  • 1-8+ years’ experience in the Canadian Life and Health insurance/reinsurance industry.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills. Comfortable working with fairly complex calculations.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong problem solving and organization skills.
  • Excellent communication skills as demonstrated in general conversation, clear, complete responses to internal and external clients, formal presentations and written documents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and effectiveness working under tight timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
  • Advanced Excel, Word, Access.
  • Experience with AXIS and Datalink.
