RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for the business design and implementation effort for assigned data and methods to access the data.
  • Maintain the core data warehouse by understanding data and analytics needs of the area in which the position supports.
  • Run and build reports as necessary to support business unit.
  • Track and monitor business unit goals and profitability through use of data.
  • For Senior:
  • Locate, profile, cleanse, map, import and merge data from various sources, including legacy systems, EDW data marts, AWS, and third-party vendors.
  • Design analytical tools, develop monitoring reports and use statistical techniques to extract information from data in order to develop specific and actionable recommendations to improve operational performance and business profitability based on quantitative and qualitative evidence.
  • Develop reports based on internal business and department of insurance data call/market conduct requirements.
  • Train, mentor, and lead other data specialists. Serve as a positive role model of excellent quantitative, analytical, problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or information systems field, and/or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5+ years’ experience in data science, data mapping, integration, database design and analytical reporting required.
  • Strong analytical capability required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical software required.
  • Experience in the P&C Insurance industry preferred.
  • For Senior: Understanding of insurance data including policy life cycle, claim life cycle, transaction data, and experience data.
  • Proven ability to work and communicate effectively on cross-functional, internal and external teams.
  • Effectively communicate and translate data findings and interpretations.
  • Self-starter with strong work ethic, able to work independently and as part of a team. Strong business collaboration skills, responsiveness to service needs and operational demands required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. Ability to make complex concepts simple to understand by a variety of audiences. Proven ability to work and communicate effectively on cross-functional, internal and external teams.
  • Strong data, analytical, problem solving, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail.
  • Advanced SQL skills required. Demonstrated ability and interest in continuously learning data and analytical software is critical. SAS skills preferred. Experience with C#, Java, R, and/or Python is a plus.
  • Experience with data visualization techniques and user data access tools such as Tableau and Qlikview is a plus
  • For Senior:
  • Solid project management skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines in a high-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, solid collaboration skills, and prompt responsiveness to service needs and operational demands required.
  • Proven mastery and continuous learning of data and analytical software is critical. Ability to comprehend and improve company databases, data processes, and user access applications, and to serve as a primary expert within the company.
  • High level of quantitative and research skills, and proven data interpretation capabilities with a passion for empirical research and answering difficult business questions with data.
  • Advanced SQL skills required. Expertise in harvesting XML or relatively unstructured data strongly desired. Python, Java, C#, SAS, or R is a plus.
  • Experience with code versioning strongly desired.
  • Data visualization skills, deep experience with user data access tools such as Tableau and QlikView is a plus.
  • Ability to identify and learn applicable new tools and techniques.
