RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the strategic direction for Defined Benefit, including the staging of its strategy in Canada and in other geographies
  • Collect and analyze information about the de-risking landscape in Canada, including the factors driving de-risking, the solutions being used, the level of market activity and new product innovation.
  • Participate in competitive analysis of other companies offering Canadian de-risking solutions.
  • Create and oversee the implementation of a market segmentation strategy for Canada.
  • Create a strong sales funnel by developing and nurturing relationships with plan sponsors and consultants, educating them on Defined Benefit products and working with them to implement Defined Benefit solutions.
  • Participate in creation and execution of entertainment plan.
  • For investment solutions prospects, coordinate efforts with the company Management at all stages of prospecting activities.
  • For PRT, partner with the DBS Structuring team to achieve Defined Benefit’ annual sales and VNB targets.
  • For investment solutions, collaborate with the company Management to achieve annual sales and revenue targets.
  • Lead the sales support activities where Defined Benefit has the best-in-front role.
  • Transfer wins smoothly over to the company Management’s client relationships team for implementation and ongoing service.
  • Negotiate with plan sponsors and consultants on contract terms and pricing.
  • Lead the relationship management team that manages DBS’ ongoing relationships for annuities and longevity insurance clients.
  • Ensure that we are properly cultivating these relationships and creating goodwill for Defined Benefit.
  • Work towards making servicing a differentiator for our PRT business.
  • Collaborate with Management to ensure exceptional service for our common investment solution clients.
  • Collaborate with payout annuity group and plan install team in their delivery of servicing activities for annuity clients.
  • Get involved with issues resolution and continuous improvements to unlock additional value from those teams.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to coordinate and connect prospecting activities with marketing activities.
  • Contribute to creation of thought leadership pieces, new presentation content, material for speaking opportunities, ads and press releases.
  • Attend external events and participate in speaking engagements.
  • Help distribute thought leadership pieces to prospects and consultants.
  • Manage direct reports and coach them in managing their own direct reports.
  • Interact and collaborate with an extended team of the company professionals in legal, operations, ALM, portfolio management, investments, Management, actuarial, product design and sales to achieve Defined Benefit Solutions’ objectives.
  • Attract, develop and retain a high performing team as well as create a pipeline of talent.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • FCIA designation.
  • 10 or more years of actuarial experience working with defined benefit pension plans.
  • Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills that allow for deep actuarial analysis.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex ideas to non-actuaries.
  • Strong project management skills with a proven commitment to quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent emotional intelligence in order to nurture and grow relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership abilities to build and motivate a strong, high functioning team.
