RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Partner with the rest of the Business Analytics team and Actuarial teams to develop, train and test analytical solutions to enhance our customer experience, pricing, risk mitigation, and claims processes using open source and cloud-based tools.
  • Gather and document user stories with our stakeholders.
  • Develop effective work plans to meet project and stakeholder needs.
  • Develop data scripts and pipelines to convert raw data into modelling and deployment formats.
  • Support the ongoing evolution of design and development best practises with our selected technology and tools.
  • Lead in the communication of model characteristics and diagnostics to business users.
  • Join in the development of deployment scripts that automate delivery of model scores and results in batch and real time.
  • Maintain the deployed models by running and delivering reports, and debug supporting programs and tools.
  • Engage in team activities and presentations that continually improve the knowledge and capabilities of the team.
  • Supervise and provide assistance, training and coaching to other employees to efficiently use standard insurance industry techniques.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary school education with a major in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related discipline.
  • Completed at least 5 of the 9 Casualty Actuarial Society exams.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an actuarial role.
  • Qualification in a predictive analytics discipline is an asset, such as the iCAS CSPA.
  • Good working knowledge of insurance products and the insurance distribution process.
  • Good working knowledge of legal statutes regulating the insurance industry.
  • Academic or work experience with Python, R, git, and cloud platforms
  • Experience with applying statistical techniques or machine learning.
  • Experience with SAS or SQL is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills such as time management and planning, self-sufficient in day to day work.
  • Awareness of leading analytics techniques in the insurance and actuarial fields.
  • Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
