  • Define, publish and manage the enterprise Data Governance strategy in partnership with the Finance & IT leadership. This includes helping to oversee the company transition from the current hub-and-spoke data architecture to a more robust, dynamic and real-time data architecture leveraging leading-edge data and reporting tools.
  • Lead the effort to deploy polices and process with respect to the use of data, and development of reports and analytics which will help establish a common vocabulary and taxonomy for data and reports across the organization.
  • Establish an operating model for data governance, including the roles and responsibilities such as data governance body, data stewardship, and data custodians and the required policies and procedures.
  • Organize and facilitate the execution of data governance activities with sustainable operating routines with clear accountabilities - including reviews of supporting processes, roles and responsibilities for optimization.
  • Provide critical leadership to improving data efficiency and effectiveness across the company. But, also be heavily involved in the tactical day-to-day work, and/or be able to review, the work of the Business Intelligence staff.
  • Ensure enterprise data meets the organization wide reporting requirements and moves to next level of maturity.
  • Establish a Center of Excellence for Data and Analytics in order to support a data driven Familiarity next generation concepts to help drive business value.
  • Bachelor’s degree, and preferably Masters or MBA.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior data position within a large to mid-size P&C Carrier.
  • Understands how to drive business outcomes via technology enablement.
  • Proven ability to influence, and resolve competing interests, at the most senior levels, and to interface and collaborate effectively with other senior leaders.
  • Extensive experience building and leading a data organization and driving business value from data across the business.
  • Proven track record of managing or overseeing large-scale delivery.
  • Brings a commercial mindset with a proven ability to offer strategic solutions and manage in a progressive fashion.
  • Established relationships/network with IT service vendors.
  • Extensive knowledge in Property/Casualty insurance, and reinsurance, concepts, theories and terminology.
  • Familiarity with the functions of Marketing, Underwriting, Actuarial Pricing and Reserving, Product Development, Accounting, Claims and Legal issues in the Commercial Property/Casualty business, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the Surplus Lines insurance market segments and its workings is desirable.
  • The candidate should understand and be fluent in SQL
  • It is desirable, but not required, to know LINQ, XQuery, XML/JSON, Perl, Python, Tcl, JavaScript and/or C#.
  • The candidate should understand relational, star and snowflake schemas, and be able to traverse a hierarchical data model.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while meeting established deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage staff, and review the work product of staff in detail.
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated high accuracy output.
  • Strong problem solving, reasoning, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
