  • Lead a team of Actuaries/associates to transform the Valuation process - automating and modernizing the end to end process.
  • Manage, train, and direct team on execution of modeling strategies and further tasks noted below.
  • Redesign the AXIS models to improve efficiency, accuracy and controls.
  • Design and implement model enhancements required for IFRS17 reporting.
  • Liaise with US office to ensure consistent design and alignment of goals.
  • Identify and implement industry best practices in model design, data & assumption management.
  • Review models, model changes, results, etc. of team and present results/recommendations to management.
  • Quantify and explain impacts of model changes, new AXIS functionality, and new data under three reserving bases.
  • Propose and oversee implementation of model enhancements based on improved approaches or new functionality.
  • Ensures model design is efficient, consistent, and easy to update and understand for new users.
  • Develop controls to ensure accurate calculations within the new AXIS models and a controlled framework for model and assumption changes.
  • Contributes to company-wide projects to enhance understanding and evaluation of impacts and preparation of models, reporting and systems for IFRS17 reporting.
  • Ensures models, processes and systems used for financial reporting are state of the art and fully documented.
  • Builds strong relationships with other departments, maintains regular communication, identifies opportunities for improvement and successfully addresses issues as they arise.
  • University Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • 5-10 years of experience in the Canadian Life and Health insurance/reinsurance industry.
  • Strong problem solving and organization skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and effectiveness working under tight timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • Comfortable working with fairly complex calculations.
  • Project management skills and experience.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advanced Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Experience with SQL server is an asset.
  • Experience with AXIS and Datalink.
