RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops an overall strategic vision for the Financial operations and Actuarial functions of Group Protection.
  • Establishes the organizational goals, objectives, and operating procedures of GP Finance.
  • Ensures the Finance functional areas are meeting all objectives pertaining to quality, compliance, regulations, productivity, customer service, budget, and project management.
  • Develops and ensures GP operational plans are aligned with the company’s overall business plans and specific strategic and tactical initiatives.
  • Leads the Actuarial functions:
  • Valuation - responsible for establishing reserves monthly.
  • Modeling - building and maintaining cash flow models to be used for pricing, valuation and planning.
  • Data Science - predictive modeling and experience.
  • Information and Data Warehouse Strategy.
  • Provides critical financial thought leadership and expertise to strategically drive improved financial and business results.
  • Evaluates and interprets economic trends and conditions which affect the financial services industry to determine short-term and long-term financial policies and plans.
  • Drives alignment for the finance organizations efforts with key strategic initiatives and mission including providing the vision for accomplishing the company's financial goals and setting the tone for the underlying values, consistent with overall corporate operating philosophy.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs as they seek solutions for a full range of business challenges; ensuring that these executives are provided with strategically optimal financial impacts to the enterprise.
  • Oversees effective internal control of all GP operations to ensure an accurate reporting of its financial position.
  • Advises, collaborates and guides the senior executive management on strategic financial planning opportunities and interpreting how they relate to and support the enterprise’s and GP’s strategic objectives.
  • Identifies financial and enterprise risks and strategically designs, develops, and implements mitigation plans.
  • Provides management with monthly, quarterly and annual reviews of the organization’s financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
  • Ensures the preparation and communicates GP’s financial performance to company’s leadership team, Board of Directors, Regulators, Rating Agencies, Investors/Analysts, Customers/Intermediaries, and the employees of the GP line of business.
  • Focuses on performance to goals and identifies areas for improvement and concern.
  • Ensures the preparation of reports which summarize and forecast GP business activities and financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
  • Provides leadership and oversight in the preparation of budgets, by reviewing budget proposals and supporting documentation and justifications.
  • Partners with the GP leadership team in the design, development, and implementation of the business unit’s strategy and planning process for the on-going success of the business.
  • Provides executive oversight to ensure that the proper governance is applied to all functions and actions, which include SOX implementation and compliance activities.
  • Leads the design, development, and implementation of GP accounting policies, programs and methods and ensures that proper standards are maintained by accounting/finance personnel.
  • Provides executive approvals for regulatory reporting.
  • Directs and drives special studies and analysis concerning economic and financial implications of existing and planned GP initiatives or projects.
  • Provides executive oversight of the administration of a multimillion-dollar expense budget by approving expenditures, reviewing reports, initiating process improvements and managing cost.
  • Identifies and provides expertise on merger and acquisition targets for the business unit.
  • Participates in appropriate committees, providing subject matter expertise.
  • Builds organizational capability within Group Protection Operations functions.
  • Ensures that top talent is hired and retained.
  • Provides training and development opportunities for Group Protection Operations’ employees and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent.
  • Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area/s of responsibility, assess the impact, and collaborates with senior executive management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies.
  • Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines. Complies with all company and site policies and procedures.
  • Remains current in profession and industry trends.
  • Makes a positive contribution as demonstrated by: making suggestions for improvement, learning new skills, procedures and processes.
  • Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries, Fellow of Society Actuaries, master’s in business administration degree or Advanced Degree preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree 15+ years of progressively more responsible experience in accounting, analysis, actuarial and/or financial reporting or related function, including at least 5+ years of senior management, strategy, and influencing senior management/critical stakeholders experience; or 19+ years of equivalent progressively more responsible experience in accounting, analysis, actuarial and/or financial reporting or related function, including at least 5+ years of senior management, strategy and influencing senior management/critical stakeholders experience.
