RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead various advanced statistical analyses including data mining and actuarial research techniques. Construct and present analyses and recommendations to senior leaders and coordinate efforts in applying, validating and implementing models.
  • Direct multiple complex research projects simultaneously as well as aspects of large and complex initiatives.
  • Proactively stay abreast of industry, developments, and changing trends.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with business partners across the company to ensure consistency and alignment where appropriate.
  • Manage performance of assigned staffs and develop new capabilities for the team.
  • Consults with Sr. business leaders and evaluates market dynamics, current practices, company and business customer's goals to identify opportunities to achieve business objectives.
  • Creates strategies to address identified needs and develops research projects that impact the opportunities. Directs the development of project proposals that include: research objectives, methodology, time lines and resource requirements.
  • Analyses issues and trends to determine big picture solutions to business needs. Reviews and analyses work of team to ensure quality, consistency and impact.
  • Directs the design and delivery of research methodology that includes actuarial approaches, statistical applications and financial profitability modeling.
  • Partners with business Sr. leaders to understand the business, needs and strategies. Assists in formulating design ideas and encapsulating like needs across the customer base.
  • Designs and develops models, practices and procedures used in all research studies. Responsible for consistency and continuity of all work performed by the team.
  • Responsible for management of associates including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise model governance standards, e.g. in the areas of model documentation, development and execution of controls, model testing, and identification of model limitations.
  • Directs and oversees core studies that require extended timelines, extensive data collection, leveraging associate knowledge, identifying root cause and associated influence.
  • Creates and delivers best practices in analytic research and related tools, and presentation of information.
  • May act as an expert witness and provide expert testimony to explain and support company methodologies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post graduate degree strongly preferred.
  • Typically nine years related experience in data warehousing, statistical analysis and customer data models and queries.
  • Requires recognized internal/external experience as a consulting level resource.
  • Expert level experience with problem solving in a business environment; working with large customer and/or prospect databases; working with product, geographic, demographic data to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Leadership experience needed.
  • Extensive theoretical, practical and industry-specific knowledge is essential.
  • Solid understanding and experience with statistical research tools and relative strengths and applicability, analysis software related to other research application areas such as marketing, finance, operations research and underwriting.
  • Solid understanding of data sources both the external and internal and the modeling, systems, and regulatory implications of utilizing these data sources.
  • Ability to integrate critical information from diverse sources.
  • Ability to apply and/or develop highly advanced principles and concepts.
  • Ability to train, lead and coach associates in all aspects of research analytics and the application of research finding, and a clear grasp of practical deployment aspects.
  • Command of all skills necessary for verbal and written communication to develop and review research studies, communicate findings, make recommendations based on findings, develop and negotiate contracts/service agreements with internal/external contacts, and manage large analytical projects.
  • Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
  • Expertise in personal line pricing risk segmentation.
  • Expertise in statistical software program.
  • Expertise in developing advanced models and interpret model results.
  • Knowledge of database principles, data profiling, statistics and insurance-related data modeling and ability to apply this knowledge in the most complex situations.
  • Ability to influence business partners in adopting recommendation and ability to drive implementation.
