RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Recommend innovation projects for resourcing and funding. Integrate priority innovation projects with the deal prioritization process and identify key resource deficiencies.
  • Lead the assessment of innovation ideas.
  • Assemble the resources needed to complete the assessments.
  • Direct the building of proof-of-concept models for new products or reinsurance solutions for our clients.
  • Lead the recommending , implementing, and documenting the development of new products and solutions.
  • Direct teams of associates in the development of new products lines to market proactively to our clients.
  • Supervise, review and provide feedback on data, assumptions, modeling, sensitivity testing, and documentation on development projects.
  • Lead innovation projects through the Research process. Manage the setting of realistic and achievable deadlines for modeling, risk analysis, structuring and other new product development activities.
  • Develop business plans for projects approaching approval for implementation. - Work with the research teams to create the necessary information and projections.
  • Co-lead innovation projects through implementation working in partnership with the function owners.
  • Assure that the intent of the proposal is carried from research into the implementation process.
  • Develop innovation as a repeatable process.
  • Work with the deal management team to share best practice ideas and assure consistency where possible to assist in shared prioritization.
  • Support process improvement activity.
  • Manage the portfolio of projects related to process improvement and capability development as part of the scope of innovation.
  • Maintain value added projects to advance when deal resources are fully occupied with a special focus on capability development for the BD teams.
  • Manage rotational employees who are spending time in the innovation team and/or innovation projects for a period of time.
  • Lead peer review on the work of others, perform final consistency checks, and ensure integrity of standards and parameters.
  • Communicate core values related to the innovation practice and advocate discipline in the innovation process.
  • Manage external vendors that are contracted for the assessment and/or implementation.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Finance, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science or related field.
  • FSA Certification.
  • 15+ years actuarial experience in Life Insurance/Reinsurance.
  • Experienced insurance professional with product development or innovation experience.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage teams.
  • Motivating others, especially those who are not direct reports.
  • Proven ability to work directly with internal and external clients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of life insurance, health insurance, longevity, and/or annuity products.
  • Ability to take ownership in projects and drive them to completion.
  • Experience with actuarial modeling software.
  • Exceptional people management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop associates; including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility .
  • Expert ability in implementing change within an organization, ensuring understanding, participation, and ownership.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills including presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to convey information in a way that is meaningful and well received by stakeholders and team members.
  • Highly advanced ability to adapt new methods; work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions.

  • Preferred:
  • MAAA/FCIA or other local actuarial organization accreditation.
  • Advanced quantitative degree or designation.
  • Reinsurance industry experience.
  • Product design / pricing experience OR ALM / risk management experience.
  • Financial reinsurance, asset-intensive, or longevity pricing experience.
  • Proven ability to work in a global ‘matrix’ environment.
  • Experience interacting with insurance regulators.
  • Understanding of reinsurance profit emergence under GAAP and regulatory bases.
  • Experience presenting and advocating innovation initiatives to Senior Management.
  • Advanced knowledge of key financial reporting, accounting, and solvency regimes, including: US GAAP, US Statutory, and US tax; IFRS; MCEV / EV / EEV; and Solvency II.
  • Advanced ability to model various insurance products and reinsurance structures.
  • Expertise in MoSes, TAS10, TAS9.5, and/or AXIS.
  • Understanding of asset modeling and ALM techniques, including derivatives, and capital markets approaches.
