RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Build a portfolio of business that is designed to perform well throughout market cycles.
  • Conduct extensive reviews and analysis of submissions and the insureds’ operations, products and other coverage-relevant exposures.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and brokers to ensure continuous flow of desirable business while also cultivating new business opportunities.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Actuarial, Legal, Risk & Analytics and other teams, as needed, to analyze and structure coverage.
  • Travel as required to meet with clients and brokers, and to attend client reviews and industry conferences.
  • Chair or host group and/or individual underwriting meetings with clients, prospects and brokers.
  • Assist with product research and development.
  • Review and draft policy forms and endorsements.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of eight years of experience in progressively senior underwriting roles.
  • International experience would be beneficial.
  • CPCU, ARe or other industry designations desired.
  • A demonstrable and thorough understanding of the subject business.
  • Strong technical skills and experience in underwriting a wide range of casualty lines, including auto liability, general casualty and excess casualty.
  • Solid industry relationships with insurance brokers.
  • A strong grasp of policy forms and endorsements and their impact on a risk.
  • Flexibility to work beyond typical business hours as volume and ad hoc work require.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and gain the trust of clients, brokers and colleagues.
  • Commitment to collaboration, with ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to assist in all aspects of the underwriting process including data input, file construction and maintenance, quote and binder production, and policy issuance.
  • A strong work ethic with superior organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
