RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and sustain strong, trusting relationships with key decision-makers at existing and potential client companies, intermediaries and consultants to address their needs in a timely manner and be seen as a trusted business partner contributing to their ongoing success.
  • Work in a team environment, developing and encouraging a spirit of cooperation and coordination among departments in dealing with clients.
  • Champion company’s client planning process and focus resources by leveraging company’s Client Engagement Framework to:
  • Understand the strategic and operational priorities of clients.
  • Bring to clients the expertise and breadth of company’s global knowledge and capabilities including Global Accounts, Global Financial Solutions, Global Services.
  • Demonstrate the value of the company relationship and the understanding that the client’s business is appreciated.
  • Ensure that company is asked to quote on all reinsurance opportunities.
  • Assist in retention of profitable treaties.
  • Resolve issues or challenges.
  • Support the RFP process in a timely and efficient manner, following internal guidelines and authorities.
  • Work in collaboration with pricing and business leads to develop optimal strategies for responding to RFPs.
  • Negotiate reinsurance terms and conditions which meet profit objectives.
  • Negotiate treaty language to provide the necessary protection and ensure treaties are prepared in a timely manner.
  • Understand the dynamics which impact on the profitability of the business and ensure that potential problems are discovered and addressed early.
  • Monitor market developments with competitors, insurers, regulatory bodies, etc., and apply this information to develop new strategies or adjust existing ones.
  • Identify potential business opportunities or threats.
  • Identify compliance issues.
  • Ensure company is anticipating the effect and taking appropriate action.
  • Inform interested parties.
  • Maintain high visibility in the market by meeting with insurers, participating at industry meetings and by joining pertinent industry committees.
  • Maintain a focus on personal professional growth and development.
  • Contribute, as required, to the culture and morale of the company and to the development and implementation of strategies as a whole.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
  • 5+ years of management or supervisory experience.
  • A demonstrated track record in contributing to and implementing successful business strategies with bottom-line financial acumen, understanding market, business, and competitive patterns and trends.
  • Proven expertise in conceiving, designing and developing innovative insurance and/or reinsurance solutions.
  • Exposure to financial reporting, corporate functions and/or risk management is an asset.
  • Firm understanding of the life insurance and reinsurance industry, including products, pricing, distribution, competition, treaties, practices, relevant insurance regulatory laws, and tax laws and their impact on products and client company operations.
  • Familiar with and comfortable working in a matrix organization.
  • Preferred:
  • 5+ years reinsurance experience
  • Actuarial background with Fellowship designation.
  • Multiple product lines and functional area experience
  • Extensive life insurance product experience.
  • A recognized or emerging professional within the industry.
  • A high level of personal accountability and integrity.
  • Ability to implement the organizational vision and goals that result in achievement and success through, collaboration, strategic and creative thinking, maintaining focus, and persistence, even under adversity, while maintaining the confidence of management and associates.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills including presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to convey information in a way that is meaningful and well received by stakeholders and team members.
  • Highly advanced ability to investigate, analyze and solve complex financial and business problems/issues.
  • Expert persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers to resolve issues/problems.
  • Highly advanced ability to adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions.
  • Expertise to manage multiple projects and/or sub-teams simultaneously.
  • Strong customer focus with an ability to create, develop and maintain a strong team environment where an enthusiastic and positive attitude is felt by all levels.
  • Effective in presentations before groups and in managing question and answer sessions.
  • Ability to travel as required.
