  • Responsible for collaborating with colleagues internationally, as required.
  • Build a portfolio of business that is structured to produce and maintain profitable results throughout the market cycle.
  • Conduct extensive reviews and analyses of treaty reinsurance opportunities, including performing a thorough analysis of primary operations, products, and management teams.
  • Partner with clients to review their specific professional liability requirements, and structure appropriate reinsurance to satisfy their needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and reinsurance brokers to ensure continuous flow of desirable treaty reinsurance opportunities.
  • Work in close collaboration with the actuarial, finance, and claims teams to analyze and structure reinsurance programs.
  • Travel as required to meet with clients and brokers, conduct client reviews, and attend industry conferences.
  • Coordinate with department manager on the development and execution of the sales process including planning, operating routines, and portfolio monitoring.
  • Negotiate with brokers on new and renewal business, and involve senior management in the process as needed.
  • Comprehends market trends and standard policy language.
  • Reviews any specific coverage requests with senior underwriting staff to determine current risk appetite and/or whether further authority is required to proceed.
  • Other Liability lines of business expertise a plus.

  • A university degree is required. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is preferred.
  • CPCU, ARE or other industry designations are preferred.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in progressively senior underwriting roles with at least five years’ experience at a reinsurer/reinsurance broker.
  • Strong technical skills and experience underwriting a wide variety of casualty lines.
  • Strong industry relationships and well respected by reinsurance brokers and insurers.
  • Experience partnering with actuarial teams to price and structure reinsurance treaties.
  • A thorough understanding of the primary Professional Liability lines of business. Preferably, through experience as a primary insurance underwriter or as a facultative reinsurance underwriter.
  • A strong grasp of policy forms and pricing methodology. The individual should also understand the role and impact of claims, actuarial, and finance in the underwriting process.
