  • Establishes and/or evaluates creative reinsurance solutions for the U.S. annuity market, for either specific clients or products, and/or proposing solutions for potential market needs that would add value for both the client and the company.
  • Defines treaty formulas and/or mechanics, verifying suitability for all possible scenarios to validate the proposed reinsurance structure.
  • Builds, reviews, enhances and/or guides efforts in the construction actuarial models of underlying annuity business to be used for risk analysis.
  • Builds or reviews robust reinsurance deal models in Excel to be used as the basis for sharing internally or externally, the pro-forma of the transaction and important risk/pricing metrics.
  • Adheres to and completes all tasks defined in the company’s underwriting guidelines and ushers through desired transactions to execution.
  • Calculates additional considerations related to the proposed transaction such as required capital under various accounting regimes, distributable earnings for all entities involved, impact to profit metrics for ceding company, etc., as needed, to complete due diligence.
  • Works closely and cooperates with various stakeholders throughout the organization, U.S. and international.
  • Produces and/or reviews required documentation for internal due diligence, audit, underwriting approvals, regulatory submissions, treaties, letters of intent, responses to RFPs, etc.
  • Collaborates with other Annuity Solutions team members to respond timely to internal and external requests and complete due diligence.
  • Presents and/or actively participates during internal or external meetings and discussions.
  • Researches, independently or directs others, on regulatory developments, product filings, market trends, industry studies, etc.
  • Supports and/or reviews annuity experience studies, coordinating with New Business Shared Services.
  • Evaluates risk monitoring metrics for inforce annuity business.
  • Assists with ad-hoc projects in the department or company, as needed.
  • Manage one or more junior employees in the department.
  • Adhere to standards for managing employees and corporation with the Actuarial Development Program.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or similar.
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.
  • 8+ years of experience in an actuarial role.
  • Advanced PC skills, to include Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of U.S. individual annuity products.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with ability to communicate complex concepts.
  • Excellent writing skills and documentation standards.
  • Technical actuarial aptitude.
  • Experience with actuarial modelling software.
  • Basic programming knowledge.
  • Understanding of reinsurance basics.
  • Experience or background with various accounting frameworks: Solvency II, U.S. Statutory and GAAP, IFRS.
  • Knowledge of annuity based reserving: CARVM, AG33, AG43.
