RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Financial Risk Oversight, Financial Risk Measurement and Reporting, Investment Strategy, Capital Management and Economic Capital Modelling, ERM Framework & Strategic Initiatives.
  • Working with the Director, the Vice President ERM, the Chief Risk Officer, the Chief Investments Officer and other key stakeholders in Investments, Actuarial and Finance departments to provide oversight and constructive challenge in relation to the company’s financial risks -including market, credit, liquidity, asset liability matching and capital risks.
  • Supporting the identification, monitoring and reporting on all sources of financial risk; including the identification and assessment of the top and emerging financial risks for the organization.
  • Assists the Director with developing and monitoring changes in: risk appetites, risk tolerances and other key risk metrics. Engages stakeholders on risk concerns and any market developments affecting these risks and exposures.
  • Providing oversight for ALM, stress testing and all regulatory / external reporting / information requests that relate to financial risk.
  • Works with the Director and other stakeholders to develop and implement appropriate policies, procedures and risk controls to address financial risks, as well as legal, regulatory and policy compliance.
  • Assists the Director and the Investment Department in assessing risk considerations and controls of new business proposals, portfolio changes and regulatory changes.
  • Assists with the oversight of trades subject to the Personal Trading Policy.
  • Supports the maintenance and continual enhancement of the financial risk measurement and reporting framework and related documentation.
  • Complies with the validation and control procedures addressing modeling and operational risks of the framework.
  • Researches and helps with the development of modeling and reporting enhancements required by the introduction of new products and asset classes.
  • Maintains and enhances the set of key risk indicators and reporting used for monitoring against management and Board-approved limits.
  • Ensures timely and accurate reporting of all Financial Risk Oversight reports.
  • Supports the control of measured financial risks and associated awareness and socialization with key stakeholders and committees.
  • Maintains and refines existing financial risk stress testing framework; assists with the development of hypothetical stress tests.
  • Assists the Director with the design and development of a back-testing function to confirm the ongoing effectiveness of the financial risk measurement framework.
  • Supports the development and implementation of new investment products, strategies or systems which are aligned with the company's risk appetite and policy compliance limits.
  • Performs bespoke/ad-hoc analyses on the risk implications of new products, processes and systems.
  • Monitors asset allocations and risk attributes alongside the Board-approved market risk appetite limits and tolerances.
  • Maintains and coordinates financial risk modeling for the framework.
  • Works with stakeholders to integrate measures and insights for financial risk into capital management processes and link to risk appetites.
  • Ensures methodology and procedural documentation of financial risk is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Collaborates with other members of the ERM Team to continuously enhance risk management practices and achieve ERM objectives.
  • Maintains and enhances the reporting process around risk appetite metrics for the company.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, mathematics or a related discipline.
  • Master’s degree and/or completion / progression towards a Chartered Financial Analyst or Financial Risk Manager designation would be an asset.
  • 2 - 5 years of experience in a financial risk, investment risk, capital markets risk or credit risk capacity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in: model development, stress testing, ALM and value-at-risk.
  • Proven knowledge of risk measures, financial instruments, financial ratios and financial data with experience in a risk reporting function.
  • Proficiency with Excel, VBA and Bloomberg.
  • Demonstrated experience with data management, data base design and SQL
  • Excellent organizational skills and willingness to be an active team member, but also work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to think through problems, assess a variety of factors and recommend a solution.
  • Detail oriented, ability to work with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment and able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
