RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with various stakeholder to translate business requirements into formalized and repeatable data processes.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software that contributes to company Big Data products.
  • Assist in the exploration of data sources.
  • Document all aspects of data processes.
  • Contribute to educational initiatives aimed at the development of overall inter- and intra-departmental knowledge.
  • Contribute to data management improvements.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve application incidents.
  • Participate in planning activities.
  • Estimate and track progress of assigned work.
  • Follow established practices, processes and guidelines.
  • Keep current with relevant technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of Post-secondary degree or diploma in software development or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years of practical experience performing an application development role building software using current programming languages and working with relational database systems and structure query languages.
  • Experience performing data exploration, data management, and other data related activities.
  • Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills to recognize and identify issues and take proper action to resolve them.
  • Effective creativity skills, with the ability to develop solutions to a variety of problems.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message.
  • Strong organizing skills with the ability to self-manage a fluctuating workload, with various situations and changing priorities.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a team setting by making contributions and supporting team members.
  • Experience with Unix; Oracle; Microsoft SQL Server; Java; Python, Spark, EMR and other Hadoop-related technologies is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in the insurance industry is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary degree/certificate in the area of mathematics, statistics, actuarial science/mathematics, engineering, physics, or other related field is considered an asset.
