RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Underwrites treaty P&C business and assumes the underwriting decision within the company’s underwriting guidelines and authorities
  • Coordinates underwriting activities for assigned area; facilitates clients’ contact to LOB specialists, actuaries, and support units
  • Visits clients frequently to attain information about the client and market intelligence
  • Acts as ambassador for the company’s image, plan and vision in the market
  • Identifies and analyses existing and potential target clients, their strategy, financials and reinsurance-needs
  • Manages client relationships in coordination with the underwriting manager
  • Designs with the underwriting manager the market-strategy, client tactic as well as the respective planning
  • Accountable for the implementation of the underwriting plan
  • Accountable for efficient administration of the assigned portfolio in accordance with underwriting guidelines
  • Countersigns with the underwriting manager all binding commitments and invoices in respect of a client
  • Manages one underwriting assistant including individual performance- and development-objectives; support employee in reaching them and reviews performance
QUALIFICATIONS
  • University Degree (BA or more advanced) in Economics, Business, Actuarial or Insurance Science or any equivalent qualification; any additional (Re)Insurance qualifications desirable
  • Minimum 4 years working experience in underwriting and client management responsibilities preferably in a mature reinsurance market
  • Experience in technical accounting desirable
  • Familiarity with actuarial- and Natcat modelling-concepts
  • Balance sheet analysis
  • Project management experience desirable
  • Negotiation skills in dealing with clients and brokers
  • Constructive communication vis-à-vis clients as well as internal stake-holders
  • People-management
  • Ability to hold presentations to internal and external audiences
  • Languages spoken / written: German on mother tongue level and proficient English knowledge required, advanced French strongly desired
  • Proficient and effective use of MS-Office applications, especially Excel
  • Ability to manage and lead a small team (underwriting assistant)
