RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Designing and developing mortality, surrender, LTC incidence/termination and premium studies, identifying the most relevant drivers of experience and partnering with other actuaries to establish best estimates and margins.
  • Designing and developing data management platforms to effectively manage actuarial data.
  • Partnering with data scientists to develop predictive models to better understand policyholder behavior.
  • Provide thought leadership on the design and development of experience studies that can be utilized by pricing, underwriting, valuation, claims, enrollment, policy administration, marketing and other areas of group protection.
  • Develops the strategy and directs improvements to experience reporting and data management environment to enable the team to be nimbler and responsive to changing business needs.
  • Collaborates with members of Life Solutions on the strategy for assumption setting and experience analysis used in pricing, reserving, reinsurance, inforce management, cash flow testing, loss recognition test and business plans for the Life products.
  • Proactively participate in the adherence to data governance policy.
  • Lead and provide direction on implementation of data management strategies.
  • Designs and implements data verification and audit processes to provide robust and transparent demonstration of data integrity and structure.
  • Develops and directs collateral materials for data calls.
  • Responsible for leading of data calls for external customers including regulators, the Society of Actuaries, and other external studies.
  • Provide thought leadership on model development so that models are developed in a manner that is consistent with the experience studies that were preformed to set assumptions for the models.
  • Works with others to prepare actuarial response and communication of results of actuarial research to business unit management.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to support baseline and strategic initiatives with the development of cost benefit analysis.
  • Collaborates with key business partners to ensure execution of business initiatives.
  • Collaborates with peers and leadership across the multiple Departments and external organizations to negotiate for resources needed to accomplish objectives.
  • Invites and encourages dialogue with and among employees and peers to increase understanding of differing points of view, strengthen team cohesion and promote good decision making.
  • Collaborates with other actuarial leaders of Life Solutions to manage the recruiting of and the development of members of the Actuarial Development Program for Life Solutions.
  • Encourages the development of staff and self.
  • Develops strong foundation of talent across the Department, supports mobility across the Business Units, and considers Business Unit needs when managing staff development, recruitment, succession planning and diversity.
  • Looks for and analyzes unique marketplace patterns that might be missed by others; pushes employees on how to take advantage of hidden opportunities in a new way.
  • Views the organization’s future with optimism; coaches employees and peers on how to use optimism to engage employees and increase discretionary effort.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Undergraduate degree and 4+ years of comparable work experience required.
  • FSA designation or ASA designation with substantial additional years actuarial experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in actuarial science that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position.
  • Knowledge of insurance products preferred.
  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of STAT, including PBR, and GAAP requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed and logical discussions/presentations.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate knowledgeably and credibly with senior management and internal constituents.
  • Ability to think critically, analyze information and to evaluate the implications of a course of action or solution.
