  • Oversee an actuarial pricing function that is committed to providing technical and commercial value to the underwriting organization.
  • Will maintain an environment and control system to ensure that contracts are priced in a consistent, timely and accurate manner.
  • Collaborate with the underwriting departments to ensure all qualitative and commercial considerations are represented in the pricing product, while ensuring that the pricing department maintains an independent point of view on the financial aspects of each transaction.
  • Provide counsel to the CUO, CEO of Global P&C and WW Specialties, and the business unit leaders in managing the business including business planning, and operational reviews.
  • Manage a highly talented and experienced North American actuarial organization.
  • Work with Pricing Managers to establish appropriate and balanced workflow as well as establishing staffing and development opportunities to ensure the group is continually challenged, motivated and engaged.
  • Continuously improve the selection and pricing of risks through the use of leading-edge pricing tools and models.
  • Seek opportunities to improve processes and approaches to enhance effectiveness and efficiency and share knowledge to benefit the broader actuarial organization.
  • Oversee a North American pricing referral and peer review process that ensures that all risks are appropriately analyzed.
  • Work with the reserving department to integrate pricing data and perspectives into the reserving process and the profitability outlook for the organization.
  • Ensure the pricing function is applying generally accepted actuarial principles and methods and is complying with all regulatory and risk management policies and practices.
  • A university degree in a quantitative discipline is required. An advanced degree would be of benefit.
  • Fellow or Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society is required.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in progressively senior actuarial roles with a leading re/insurer.
  • A senior actuary with deep expertise pricing a wide range of property and casualty lines including large and complex casualty business. This individual will likely have significant experience pricing reinsurance programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building effective teams. This individual will have experience managing through others as well as coaching and inspiring to unlock potential and possibilities to not only grow their team but to grow the business.
  • A track record of advising senior management and contributing to the broader direction of the business.
  • Superior interpersonal skills. Has been successful developing strong internal relationships with many constituents including senior management and underwriters without sacrificing the independence of the actuarial unit.
  • Excellent communication skills. This individual must have the ability to articulate actuarial information and concepts to non-actuarial audiences.
  • Strong financial acumen and highly quantitative. Proven ability to interpret and apply understanding of key financial indicators to make better business decisions.
  • A strategic thinker who is able to contribute to the development of a broader vision; yet is able to roll up his /her sleeves to execute the strategy.
  • Gravitas - proven ability to operate effectively at all levels and gains the trust and confidence of senior management.
