RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under limited supervision, applies the appropriate actuarial analytical tools to the data and performs preliminary actuarial and statistical analysis.
  • Updates actuarial pricing, valuation and forecasting models as directed.
  • Refines and collects appropriate data for actuarial analysis and ensures its reasonableness and accuracy by coordination within the division.
  • Performs key actuarial functions including new product pricing, evaluation of the impact of new legislation, flexible benefit consulting, and special projects.
  • Responsible for recommendations on pricing, marketing, product design, claims, premium and enrollment administration of business unit.
  • Responsible for valuation support for business unit by interpreting financial results, variances from forecast to help identify product and segment behavior to assist in the risk management of the business unit.
  • Obtains, verifies, analyzes and models data including risk reporting and forecasting.
  • Calculates monthly claims liability reserves, develops merit rating factors and prepares Department of Insurance annual statement exhibits.
  • Designs and completes special projects such as developing and maintaining experience-rating formulae and creating and/or reviewing alternative settlement formulate and risk sharing models.
  • Analyzes and implements risk contracts including conducting experience analyses, pricing, filing and settlement work; and prepares management reports supporting new capitation initiatives.
  • Assists in training of actuarial trainees, analysts and specialists.
  • Coordinates/directs special actuarial projects.
  • Associate Actuary primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Actuarial Analyst III.
  • Required: Requires a BS/BA degree.
  • Required to have passed at least four Society of Actuaries or Casualty Actuarial Society actuarial exams.
  • At least 3 years of related experience.
  • Or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Preferred: Group Insurance, Medicare Advantage, or Pharmacy strongly preferred.
  • SAS, Excel, and Access are preferred
  • Associate Actuary.
  • Required: Requires a BS/BA degree.
  • ASA is required from the Society of Actuaries.
  • At least 4 years related experience.
  • Or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Preferred: Group Insurance, Medicare Advantage, or Pharmacy strongly preferred.
  • SAS, Excel, and Access are preferred.
