RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform due diligence on pension and post-retirement benefits plans for corporate and private equity buyers and sellers.
  • Support our Senior Manager to work with the advisory group to bring the company’s cross functional capabilities to our clients and offer a comprehensive service solution.
  • Manage the review of financial and accounting reports, funding valuation reports and other documents.
  • Support advisory work to buyers or sellers on significant financial risks associated with the pension and post-retirement benefit plans and options available.
  • Manage the needs of our on-going clients in respect of administration of the plans.
  • Manage and perform pension plan valuations for funding and accounting purposes.
  • Manage audit support assistance to the assurance engagement teams on complex accounting events or transactions.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Near Fellow or Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in pension consulting.
  • Strong knowledge of actuarial standards of practice, pension legislations in respect of minimum and maximum funding rules in Ontario and Income Tax Act requirements in respect of registered pension plans, and general knowledge with respect to pension legislation in some other jurisdictions.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standard IAS 19 Employee Benefits under IFRS.
  • Strong work and business ethics, committed to client service and quality.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills and can explain complex technical subjects in simple business terms.
  • Self-motivated and experience in managing staff.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, concurrent priorities.
  • Detail oriented and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The following experience, expertise and skills are an asset.
  • Experience with OPEB.
  • Knowledge of GAAP in the United States.
  • Working knowledge of French is a significant asset.
