RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Validation and testing of ALFA/Axis models.
  • Running quarterly forecast projections, working to understand and communicate results.
  • Reconciling changes in results - current forecast vs. prior forecast and actual results vs. prior forecast.
  • Working closely with the modeling team to enhance forecast model capabilities and accuracy.
  • Answering any questions from management concerning results.
  • Maintaining automated, transparent, and quick end-to-end processes.
  • Maintaining up-to-date model documentation.
  • Assisting with preparation of reports that communicate results to senior leaders.
  • Responding to internal ad-hoc inquires for all annuity lines of business.
  • Developing general knowledge on annuity products.
  • Understanding GAAP income statement, balance sheet and profit measures.
  • Running model projections on new business and inforce profitability, working to understand and communicate results.
  • Running and/or reviewing model changes/enhancements throughout the year to understand and explain the impact to profitability metrics.
  • Maintaining dashboards that report on profitability on a routine basis.
  • Maintaining automated, transparent, and quick end-to-end processes.
  • Maintaining up-to-date model documentation.
  • Develop understanding of profitability drivers and how that translates to business decisions Monthly, the actuary may assist with the completion of several reporting tasks, possibly including liability estimates, summaries, dashboards, and/or other internal reports.
  • In addition to the monthly duties, each quarter and year-end the actuary may also assist with income statements and financial reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science, mathematics, Statistics, or similar background requiring modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis.
  • ASA, FSA preferred.
  • At least four years of Actuarial experience
  • Requires knowledge of actuarial business functions, statistical methods of analysis, company actuarial systems and databases, and their integration; technical facility with leading computer tools and technology.
  • Knowledgeable of company operations, products, systems, and actuarial methodologies.
  • Proficient or able to lead in Microsoft Office products programming languages and Actuarial models.
  • Basic level of command skills, strategic agility, business perspective, and accounting. Proficient level of delegation, motivating others perspective, dealing with ambiguity, customer focus, and drive for results.
  • Mastery level of problem solving, learning on the fly, and leveraging system capabilities.
  • Individual contributor who also works well within a team environment.
  • Proficient in Excel and Access. SQL skills preferred.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Exposure to actuarial modeling systems preferred.
  • Programming experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and careful attention to detail.
