RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides strategic advice to management on financial results, accounting policies and external audit issues related to Pension Plan.
  • Assisting in the preparation and review of the annual and quarterly reports and financial statements for the Pension Plan and related Corporations.
  • Analyze proper presentation and disclosure relative to best practices, Part IV - Accounting Standards for Pension Plans, IFRS, and regulatory standards.
  • Develop accurate and complete accounting records and reconciliations relating to the Corporation's Pension Plan’s financial position ensuring they meet all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies, obtains, interprets and analyses the financial information required to support the financial decision-making. Providing mentorship and guidance on the work of Analysts.
  • Coordinate and support the actuaries in the preparation of the actuarial valuation reports.
  • Prepares explanations, submissions, briefing materials and presentations for delivery to Management, Investment Committees, Trustees and the Board of Directors.
  • Conducting in-depth analyses, identifying developing trends, issues and changes in legislation and assessing their impact on our financial reporting requirements and financial policy framework.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is preferred. University degree in Finance and Business Administration may be considered.
  • Completion of a Professional Accounting Designation (CPA).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience and increasing responsibilities working with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated work experience in designing and implementing new accounting policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated work experience in technical accounting well as leading and/or participating in cross functional project teams.
  • Demonstrated work experience and skills in providing strategic financial advice and decision support on highly complex accounting matters.
  • Demonstrated project management and team leadership skills to manage several ongoing and competing projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant financial, legislative, and regulatory environments.
  • Understanding of financial statements and general accounting principles for all aspects of the business.
  • Excellent ability to gather and analyze information, to synthesize key elements and summarize with recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
