RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for developing ERM framework and tools at the company, including systems and processes for identifying, assessing and managing risk, including risk incident reporting, key risk indicators (KRI) and risk and control self-assessments (RCSA).
  • Responsible for providing 2nd line oversight of risk owners at the company.
  • Works on the development of the company’s risk appetite framework and monitors positions against approved risk tolerance limits and capital levels.
  • Promotes a risk culture conducive for best practice risk management, in line with the Company’s risk philosophy.
  • Works together with the company to ensure that risk management policies and practices are in place that address all relevant risks facing the Company.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the company’s ERM structure, processes, risk language are consistent with that of the corporate framework.
  • Leads regular risk management meetings with risk owners and senior management at the company covering both current and emerging risks.
  • Interacts with and addresses the specific needs of the Canadian regulator.
  • Participates in special projects, committees, and meetings as required.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Enterprise Risk Management Reporting:
  • Leads the Canadian Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) process involving the company’s senior management, as well leading the production of the ORSA Board Report for the company and any related entities.
  • Presents the Risk Appetite Framework to the Company’s Board of Directors for its review and approval annually.
  • Submits to the Company’s Board of Directors an ERM report for regular review and discussion. This includes an updated assessment of risks as well as various other risk updates.
  • Global ERM framework:
  • Submits quarterly assessments to the company’s Corporate ERM function on behalf of the company.
  • Collaborates frequently with other Senior Risk Management officers located in offices worldwide to further develop the ERM framework. This will include leading or participating in global projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Actuarial Sciences, or other relevant field.
  • 5+ years of proven hands-on Enterprise Risk Management experience.
  • Life Insurance/reinsurance experience.
  • Risk Management accreditation.
  • Post-graduate or professional qualifications.
  • 7-10+ years of Risk Management experience.
  • Advanced ability of understanding risk factors affecting life insurance business.
  • Highly advanced oral and written communication skills, including leading meetings with senior management and/or Board members.
  • Highly advanced investigative, analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Highly collaborative and comfortable working in a matrix structure with many different stakeholders.
  • Highly advanced ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Highly advanced ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines.
  • Broad business knowledge.
  • Able to work autonomously as part of a global team and also manage time zone scheduling challenges.
  • Bilingual (English, French).
  • Advanced PC and technical skills, including spreadsheets and presentation software.
