RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure actuarial assumptions continue to reflect our best estimate of future experience, and use latest research techniques to recommend changes as needed. Secure required approvals for all changes in assumptions.
  • Ensure pricing models, tools, and methodologies continue to reflect “state of the art”, and make improvements as appropriate.
  • Ensure that all quotes are prepared in accordance with pricing standards and risk management practices:
  • Ensure peer review process has been followed.
  • Review and approve all quotes in accordance with approval authority limits.
  • Manage compliance with credit risk, counterparty, and other requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and complete transfer of new business models to corporate actuarial.
  • Maintain the Pricing Manual and the Non-Decrement Terms of Trade assumptions. Recommend changes as circumstances dictate and acquire annual approval.
  • Manage and develop a team of actuaries with diverse experience levels.
  • Support the Account Executive’s management of client relationships through client meetings on an as needed basis. Lead discussions of a technical and/or actuarial nature with clients.
  • Signoff on all pricing and actuarial aspects of new treaties.
  • Support the Underwriting team as required.
  • Prepare annual business unit new business plan in conjunction with overall planning process.
  • Provide actuarial support and expertise to operations such as reviewing experience refund calculations and providing support for client audit issues as needed.
  • Chair biweekly communication meetings with the Canadian staff to facilitate sharing of information on items that might impact other departments
QUALIFICATIONS
  • FSA with 10+ year’s relevant experience.
  • Leadership capabilities, with the ability to develop, coach and motivate others.
  • Excellent analysis and problem solving skills, including ability to simplify complex concepts for presenting to clients and in other marketing endeavors.
  • Broad knowledge of life insurance and/or reinsurance business and demonstrated depth of technical skill and detailed knowledge and experience in risk evaluation, pricing and reserving.
  • Strong client focus, with the ability to understand and articulate client needs.
  • Ability to build and manage successful relationships with a variety of colleagues and clients in multiple locations.
  • Knowledge of US and Canada capital standards as well as US GAAP preferred.
  • Familiarity with economic capital concepts and models preferred.
  • Knowledge of AXIS preferred.
  • Demonstrates an appropriate level of technical skills for their role and an appreciation of current issues affecting their profession and the life reinsurance industry.
