RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop strong, trusting relationships with key decision makers in existing and potential client companies, intermediaries and consultants.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients to:
  • assist in retention of profitable treaties.
  • resolve issues or challenges.
  • ensure that the value of the relationship is understood.
  • demonstrate to clients that their business is appreciated.
  • Address the needs of clients in a timely manner and be seen as a trusted business partner contributing to their ongoing success.
  • Ensure that is asked to quote on ALL reinsurance opportunities.
  • Support the quote process in a timely and efficient manner, following internal guidelines and authorities.
  • Work in collaboration with pricing to develop optimal strategies for responding to RFPs.
  • Negotiate reinsurance terms and conditions which meet profit objectives.
  • Negotiate treaty language to provide the necessary protection and ensure treaties are prepared in a timely manner.
  • Understand the dynamics which impact on the profitability of the business and ensure that potential problems are discovered early.
  • Coordinate marketing and client management activities within the company.
  • Work in a team environment to bring the expertise and breadth of the knowledge to the clients, developing and encouraging a spirit of cooperation and coordination among departments in dealing with clients. Identify and recommend the Value Added Services to increase touch points with clients.
  • Monitor market developments with competitors, insurers, regulatory bodies, etc., and apply this information to develop new strategies or adjust existing ones.
  • Identify potential business opportunities or threats.
  • Identify compliance issues.
  • Ensure that is anticipating the effect and taking appropriate action.
  • Inform interested parties (internal or external).
  • Maintain high visibility in the market by meeting with insurers, participating at industry meetings and by joining pertinent industry committees.
  • Maintain a focus on personal professional growth and development.
  • Contribute, as required, to the culture and morale of the company to the development and implementation of strategies as a whole.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of 10 years of insurance experience.
  • 5+ year’s reinsurance experience.
  • Actuarial background with Fellowship designation preferred.
  • A demonstrated track record in contributing to and implementing successful business strategies with bottom line financial acumen, understanding market, business and competitive patterns and trends.
  • Proven expertise in conceiving, designing and developing innovative insurance and/or reinsurance solutions.
  • Firm understanding of the life insurance and reinsurance industry, including products, pricing, competition, treaties, practices, relevant insurance regulatory laws and tax laws and their impact on products and client company operations.
  • 5+ years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Multiple product line and functional area experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial reporting, corporate functions including risk management and capital planning.
  • Extensive life insurance product experience across all product lines.
  • A recognized or emerging professional within the industry.
  • Bilingual.

  • Expert persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers to resolve issues/problems.
  • Highly advanced ability to adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions
  • Expertise to manage multiple projects and/or sub-teams simultaneously.
  • Strong customer focus with an ability to create, develop and maintain a strong team environment where an enthusiastic and positive attitude is felt by all levels.
  • Effective in presentations before groups and in managing question and answer sessions.
  • Ability to travel as required.
